What I Did Over My Summer Break

It has been a few months since I posted the final page of Charlatan Issue 4 and I wanted to share a quick update on what I have been up to over the past 3 months. As much as I love working on the Charlatan universe, there were a couple of other projects I have had on the backburner and for my summer break I dove headfirst into both of them.

First and foremost is an “aliens among us” project that I have posted and tweeted about over the past few months—the summer break was my chance to really devote some energy to this endeavor. One of the reasons I am so excited about this book is that it is a collaboration with my good friend Kasey Quevedo whose writes and draws the amazing Velocidad webcomic ( www.velocidad-comic.com ). I am a huge fan of Velocidad and to be able to partner with Kasey on a project featuring his artwork is an awesome thing. Kasey and I will have more to share as we get ready to pitch this project to publishers and I am really psyched to be at a point where we are almost ready to unveil more details and the rest of the creative team who has contributed their talents to the pitch.

In addition to a pretty heavy focus on the alien invasion project, I have also spent time on non-comic fiction writing and completing a short story that has been poking around in my head since the beginning of the year.

And what summer break is complete without summer reading? A couple of really engaging books I have made my way through over the past month:

The Doomed City by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (link)

Virtual Light by William Gibson (link)

More project updates to come as we head into Fall and it won’t be too long until the return of Charlatan!
